safekidslincolnlancaster.JPGVolunteer Now: 2010 Lincoln Smoke Alarm Rallies

The Saturday, August 21 Smoke Alarm Rally was a great success!
We are now taking registrations for the October 2 date!

Saturday, October 2 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Lincoln High School
, 2229 J Street

The American Red Cross is proud to be one of the sponsors of the 2010 Lincoln Smoke Alarm Rallies. The high incidence of residential fires in recent years significantly increases the risk of death and serious injury to residents in our community. These tragic injuries can be prevented. Smoke detectors save lives.

Volunteers will be providing these residents with a higher level of protection by installing dual detection smoke alarms that have a 10-year battery life. A training on alarm installation, free breakfast and lunch will be provided at both rallies.
Based on Lincoln Fire & Rescue data, Safe Kids Lincoln-Lancaster County has selected the above school communities in which to conduct the 2nd Annual Lincoln Smoke Alarm Rallies.

The Red Cross needs volunteers to canvas the targeted area and install smoke alarms. Volunteers must be 18 or older. Volunteers between the ages of 16 and 17 may help if accompanied by an adult. Teams of 2 volunteers will be given tools and supplies needed to install smoke detectors. Each team will be paired with a badged official. The team will receive a map of the targeted homes for smoke alarm installation. Each team will be responsible for visiting 5-10 living units.

What to Bring

  • Step ladder/step stool (if you can, not required)
  • Red Cross apparel (if you have some)
  • A great attitude!
